The Merrill Place building is located in Pioneer Square & is primarily occupied by office & retail space. Tatley Grund was engaged to perform waterproofing to the 10 decks on the West elevation that were experiencing leaks into the office spaces below. The West configuration of the decks tier back at each level resulted in each deck being over office space. Each deck is made from T&G decking over beams with a topping slab. The scope of work was to completely remove the existing GFRC planter box’s & concrete topping slab, repair the T&G decking as necessary, install new PMMA waterproofing over new ply & install a new paver / pedestal system. Other work included exterior sealant, flashing & railing modifications.

Given the project required jack hammers for significant concrete demo with functioning office spaces directly below, noise was a definite obstacle. By adjusting work hours, as well as installing sound walls on the interior space, the project was completed on time & performed into the winter months. The scaffolding & weather enclosure was very unique due to the tiered configuration of the decks. It looked like something from the Swiss Family Robinson. With all the unique conditions on this project, it finished with great success.
